Driving forklifts is a dangerous activity, especially when people are around. That is why an operator of a forklift must follow all kinds of safety rules and precautions. Most accidents and deaths related to forklifts are caused by inexperience in operating one of these loading machines. The United States Department of Labor has an entire section devoted to the safety of people operating forklifts and similar machines. By learning about operating these machines correctly, a person can keep him or herself and people around him or her from being harmed by a forklift.
There are many safety rules that an operator must follow when using a forklift as well as precautions. When training people to become forklift operators, they show videos of accidents that can occur, which usually ends up as a serious injury or even a fatality. By following all safety rules and precautions, operators help prevent these life-threatening accidents.
The most common accidents occur due to the inexperience of a new forklift operator. This is because he or she may not have learned every single lesson about safety, or simply forgot some of his or her lessons. When he or she is involved in an accident, that safety lesson will be definitely relearned.
In order to teach people about the hazards and safety rules of forklift operation, the United States Department of Labor has set up an administration. This section, known as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA for short, sets the guidelines to follow on the safety of forklifts and other heavy machines.
